FAR Australia in association with DPIRD and CSIRO invites you to attend the 2022 Esperance Crop Technology Centre Field Day featuring the GRDC’s HRZ Farming Systems project.

The day is split into two sessions which will cover canola and cereals.

START AT THE CANOLA

10.45am - DPIRD canola trial site

Keynote Speaker:
Eric Watson
Eric and Maxine Watson grow a wide range of crops in varying soil types on almost 500 hectares on the Canterbury Plains in New Zealand and have specialised in the production of grains, grasses, alternative pasture species, vegetables and legumes for seed. Eric took out the Guinness World Record for the Highest wheat yield for the second consecutive time in 2020 when he produced an incredible 17.398 tonnes per hectare wheat crop, beating his previous record crop grown in 2017 of 16.791 tonnes per hectare.

Eric will be joining us to talk about his record yield and to share some of his secrets behind producing these hyper yielding crops.

MORNING SESSION – CANOLA
10.45am - DPIRD canola trial site with Jeremy Curry (DPIRD) and Andrew Fletcher (CSIRO).

AFTERNOON SESSION – CEREALS
12.30pm - FAR Australia Crop Technology Centre for lunch.
1.20pm - Darrin Lee, GRDC Western Panel Chair to formerly open this session followed by Nick Poole (FAR Australia) who will provide an introduction to the cereal research programme. Presentations commence.

4.20pm - Close with a chance to have a chat over beer and nibbles.

Topics and trials will include:
- Nutrition packages for high yielding canola: more bang for your buck.
- Physiological traits for future canola.
- P response in barley – effects on the crop canopy of increasing P rate.
- Key ingredients for increasing productivity in wheat and barley.
- Winter or spring wheat sowing mid April?
