Heading to new horizons: Rachel Hamilton sets sail for retirement

6 November 2024

Australian based field applied researcher, developer and extension provider announces the retirement of Communications and Events Manager, Rachel Hamilton.

After eight years in the role (four years as a casual followed by four years permanent) and almost 20 years working alongside Managing Director Nick Poole, Rachel has been a cornerstone of the FAR Australia team, dedicated to helping advance the vision and mission of FAR Australia.

“Rachel has been instrumental in not only developing FAR Australia’s communication strategies, but also in orchestrating numerous successful events that have connected researchers and industry leaders with growers nationwide,” says Nick Poole, FAR Australia’s Managing Director. “Her hard work and commitment, and her tenure on the senior management team have profoundly impacted our organisation, and we are truly grateful for her contributions.

“Rachel has been more than a colleague; she has been a true partner in FAR Australia’s journey. Her creativity, passion and dedication have greatly enriched our organisation’s work. Whilst we will miss her dearly, we are excited for her as she embarks on her new adventure.”

As Rachel prepares to leave the office behind, she shares her plans for retirement. “The time has come to hit the open ocean and sail the world. It’s a dream my husband Geoff and I have always worked towards, and now feels like the perfect time to pursue it.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure watching FAR Australia grow over the past eight years. The R, D and E portfolio that the organisation now offers nationally is one of uniqueness in the Australian grains industry; and that combined with its growing staff capacity and capability continues to build on its reputation as a leading field applied research provider, which in turn thrives to increase productivity and profitability for Australian grain growers.

“I would like to personally thank Nick (Pooley) for all his guidance and support over the last 20 years, and of course my colleagues; I will cherish the memories and friendships I’ve made during this time and feel extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity to be a member of the FAR family.”

Rachel’s last working day as a permanent staff member with FAR Australia will be Friday 8th November, however she will continue to work on a casual basis as required until the end of 2024. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating her remarkable career and in wishing her all the best in her upcoming adventures.

FAR Australia will be advertising for a new Communications and Events Manager in the New Year, and in the meantime three additional FAR staff members will join the Hyper Profitable Crops project team to replace Rachel’s input to that project. Until a new appointment is made, all enquiries regarding comms and events should be directed to Rachael Black rachael.black@faraustralia.com.au.
